I'm The 4th!

Who would have thought I would get good enough at DDR to place in a DDR tournament? I certainly didn’t. Regardless of my own thoughts on the matter, my haphazard ambling was coordinated enough to garner 4th place. I watched the couple dozen other players, and from what I could tell, I should have placed 5th. One of the better players just had the misfortune to be pit against the 1st and 2nd place winners early in the tourney. I guess that’s just how the seeds fell.

Since then, I’ve had an unrelenting compulsion to play DDR that rivals Sally Struthers’ desire for endless amounts of Snacky Cakes. This is seriously disturbing. Last night, I went through songs I was afraid to try for months, and found them only mildly difficult. I forged on, and attained AA status on two 8-foot songs without simultaneously crapping my pants. There are still a few 9-footers I won’t touch with a 10-foot pole, but at this rate, they won’t stay that way for long. My renewed lust for this game has subjected my poor calves to rather grueling and undeserved punishment, but I still don’t have the stamina I need for the really tough songs. Things like Rhythm And Police, or exotic ethnic, the venerable Max 300, and of course my current nemesis So Deep.

It’s actually somewhat scary how much better I am than a mere month ago. I’d like to attribute it to Ryan, a new DDR player that contacted me a few weeks ago, and the tournament itself. Who really knows for sure. What I do know, is that I wish I got into this a lot earlier, it really is some of the most fun I’ve ever had.
