Closing On The Move
Aha! Closing day has come and gone. I was still sick on the 7th, so it was pretty irritating coughing while trying to sign all that crazy paperwork. They kept asking if they could get me something to drink. Grr. I still have a cough, but it’s going away slowly. I want to know what the hell I got, because it’s two weeks later and I’m just now getting over it. Sheesh.
But that’s not the point. I bought a fridge and a gas stove. The fridge is a Samsung with a plethora of crazy doohickies, such as a digital readout of the temperature in each side. Ah, a side-by-side fridge… I’ve been wanting one of these longer than The Cubs have been away from a World Series. The stove I found was actually just an open item, so I got it for $250 less than list price. Not bad.
As it stands, I ran three carloads of various sundries over to my new domacile. Two of these loads were books. Fourteen freaking fileboxes full of books. I know I read a lot, but that’s enough to frighten me. I feel like I’m building my own library. The reason I only did three loads was that I went across the river to get my oil changed and tires rotated. Did I mention that I hate the Quad Cities? All bridges under construction, all of them backed up for at least two miles, even at 1:30 in the afternoon.
I have to take down some cabinets above where my fridge and stove will go thanks to the people who built my kitchen being retarded and only planning enough space for a 67" high fridge. Planning for the future isn’t an exceedingly difficult skill, but I guess it’s too difficult aroun here. It’s a small price to pay, though. I’ll do other renovations later - I just have to find some good, yet cheap cabinets to replace the ones I rip out. Oxymoron? I sure hope not!
Relaxing with a few conversations on the internet and a little light reading beats hard labor, but the labor itself is refreshing. I think after a week of lugging boxes around and cleaning, I’ll be ready to go back to work. But that’s not to say I won’t enjoy the time off while I have it!
Oh, and if anyone wants to help me move, please feel free to contact me and sign over your life to me. ^_^ Actually, by the looks of things, I’ll have almost everything except the furniture moved by Saturday. Those helping me will only be carrying a few items, the rest moved by me during this week.
